Dear Parents

I am pleased to have the opportunity to introduce Birdwell School to you. I took up the post in September 2005 and in that time I have been impressed at the qualities evident by all sections of the community. In particular the staff and pupils at Birdwell who have risen to every new challenge presented to them.

There is a real sense of purpose at the school and the focus is on creating a learning environment that enhances the already high levels of achievement at the school.

We are very proud of our successes so far this year, some of which include: a proactive school council of pupils that represent their peers on strategic development, the installation and use of interactive white boards in classrooms, a development in the way pupils play a part in their own assessment and target setting, and developments in creating a curriculum that is exciting, challenging and relevant.

These successes have been achieved through the total commitment of the pupils, staff, parents, the school's Governing Body and members of the local community. We can truly say therefore that we are well on the way to creating a vibrant learning community that we aspire to.

Thank you for your interest in Birdwell School. If you select Birdwell for your son or daughter you will be choosing a school that is totally committed to ensuring every child achieves the highest levels they can and recognises their own strengths and strengths of others.  A school where there is a real understanding of how these abilities and qualities can be applied in their own lives and as a contribution to their community.

Birdwell is an outstanding school and I invite you to come and see for yourself.
